Form 3 lead an assembly in the morning, where they talked about the misuse of the word ‘gay’ – often used to describe something or someone in a negative way. Students were then encouraged to pledge a promise by signing their name on a board, in return for a purple ribbon that they could wear on their school jumpers.
The promise was this:
‘I promise not to use the word ‘gay’ to talk about something or someone in a negative way. I promise to do this in school and at home. I understand the correct use of the word, and that using it in the wrong way may upset other people’
All the children signed up and wore their ribbons with pride. The photo shows some of Form 3 and the ‘Wear it Purple’ board.
